SSU identifies russian battalion commander who tortured and killed Ukrainian soldier during Chernihiv oblast’s occupation

The SSU has collected evidence on another russian invader who committed war crimes during temporary occupation of part of Ukraine’s northern regions.

The suspected serviceman is major Danil Koblik, battalion commander of the 74th separate motorized rifle brigade of the russian armed forces (Yurga, Kemerovo region).

According to the investigation, in March 2022 he commanded an occupation unit that took part in capturing Lukashivka village in Chernihiv region.

During punitive raids in the village, the ruscists took a Ukrainian soldier prisoner and abducted three local civilians.

The victims were then imprisoned in a garage, where the russian invaders set up a torture chamber.

Koblik personally ‘interrogated’ the Ukrainian prisoner of war, subjecting him to brutal torture.

The ruscist was trying to ‘beat’ information out of the victim on presence of the Defence Forces in the area.

Having elicited no information, the battalion commander shot the Ukrainian soldier.

After that, Koblik began to torture other captives. During the abuse, he periodically fired from his assault rifle over their heads.

Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators notified the russian occupier of suspicion of violating laws and customs of war (Article 438.1, 438.2 of the CCU).

The suspect is hiding from prosecution in russia and the temporarily occupied part of Ukraine.

The SSU is acting to bring the offender to justice. His approximate location and contacts have already been identified. The war criminal will be punished fairly.

The SSU Office in Chernihiv region carried out the investigation jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Chernihiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
