SSU declares russian colonel suspect: he ordered attack on Hryhorii Skovoroda museum in Kharkiv region
The SSU has collected evidence against another russian war criminal involved in strikes on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.
This is colonel Ivan Panchenko, commander of the 159th fighter aviation regiment of the Western military district of the russian armed forces.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Panchenko has been involved in organizing and conducting air attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine.
According to the investigation, this commander ordered an air strike in early May 2022 on the Hryhorii Skovoroda National Museum in Kharkiv region.
Then the occupiers used a Su-35S multi-purpose fighter jet, which fired an Kh-35 turbojet anti-ship missile at the memorial complex.
As a result of the attack, the museum building was heavily damaged, and an employee was seriously injured.
Currently, the russian colonel continues to command air strikes in various regions of Ukraine.
Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators served Panchenko a notice of suspicion in absentia under Articles 28.2 and 438.1 of the CCU (violation of laws and customs of war, giving orders to commit such actions, committed by a group, upon by prior conspiracy).
Efforts are underway to hold the russian war criminal to account.
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
