SSU declares russian special forces serviceman suspect: he attempted to kill civilian during occupation of Kyiv region

The SSU has identified another russian war criminal involved in the torture of civilians during the occupation of part of Kyiv region.

This is Alexander Tamryan, a 24-year-old serviceman of the 14th separate special forces brigade of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (‘the GRU’).

At the beginning of the full-scale war, he took part in the seizure of Kozarovichi village in Vyshgorod district.

During the occupation of the settlement, Tamryan was involved in the so-called ‘mopping-up’ operations aimed at capturing members of the resistance movement in the area.

In early March 2022, he, along with other russian military personnel, entered homes of local residents.

During one of these raids, Tamryan broke into the yard of a 50-year-old man and knocked him down with the butt of a rifle.

Then, he and four other ruscists continued to beat the victim with their feet and rifle butts.

In this way, they were trying to force the man to confess to ‘cooperation with the Defence Forces’.

The occupiers then left the victim bleeding in the yard, and the perpetrator threatened him that he would return and kill him.

The victim managed to hide and thus avoided further violence.

As a result of the beating, the ruscists broke his ribs, smashed his head, and damaged his chest, lower back and legs.

SSU investigators notified Tamryan of suspicion in absentia under Articles 28.1, 438.1 of the CCU (cruel treatment of civilians, committed by a group).

Efforts are underway to bring the war criminal to justice.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
