Traitor, who threatened to kill head of Luhansk region, notified of suspicion

The SSU served a notice of suspicion to a resident of Rubizhne, who at the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion helped the occupiers to capture his hometown and the neighboring Severodonetsk. To do this, he passed detailed information to the enemy on deployment and movement of Ukrainian Defence Forces.

The agent was detained back in spring; however, several examinations were required to declare him a suspect.

Having an active pro-russian position, the invaders’ accomplice contributed to rapid occupation of the region. At his own initiative, the man sent anonymous emails with threats to the head of Luhansk military and civil administration.

He ‘promised’ to kill the head of the region if the latter did not stop organizing defence of Luhansk oblast.

The investigation found out that the 46-year-old employee of Rubizhne state chemical plant Zorya established contact with two representatives of russian occupation forces in late February 2022.

For them, the traitor collected data on deployment and movement of Ukrainian military equipment and personnel, their numbers and location of fortifications in the area.

The spy took photos and video footage, and sent the collected material with detailed descriptions to ‘liaisons’ through secure communication channels.

Later, this data was used for strikes on the positions of the Defence Forces of Ukraine, enabling the enemy to gain a tactical advantage in battles.

Basing on the results of the SSU-initiated examinations, the traitor is suspected of crimes under three Articles of the CCU:

  • 28.2, 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law, upon prior conspiracy, by a group of persons);
  • 350.1 (threat of murder in respect of an official with the purpose of terminating their activities).

The suspect is currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing.

The SSU and the National Police exposed the enemy agent under the procedural supervision of Luhansk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
