SSU notifies suspicion to russian colonel in absentia: he commanded Iskander missile strike on Odesa
The Security Service of Ukraine has collected evidence against one of the commanders of the russian armed forces who committed a war crime by ordering an air strike on civilian infrastructure in Odesa on 29 April 2024.
As a result of the enemy attack, eight civilians were killed, including a young child. Another 23 people were wounded.
The strike was commanded by russian colonel Yevgeny Lederer, who at the time headed the 12th missile brigade of russia’s Southern military district.
The investigation established that it was he who ordered his subordinates to use ballistic weapons against civilian infrastructure in Odesa.
For the attack, the russians used an Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system with a cluster warhead.
The ballistic missile was launched from the area of the village of Novoselivske, located in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
A few minutes later, the missile exploded in the air over Odesa, and its fragments hit a large area.
One of Odesa’s recreational areas, a popular place for local residents to relax, was hit.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators notified Lederer of suspicion in absentia under Articles 28.2 and 438.2 of the CCU (war crimes, committed by a group upon prior conspiracy).
Efforts to bring the war criminal to justice for crimes against Ukraine are underway.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
