SSU works in hottest spots of war, from Snake Island to Severodonetsk – SSU Acting Head Vasyl Maliuk

In the full-scale war with russia, the SSU works in the hottest spots. This was stated by the SSU Acting Head Vasyl Maliuk in an interview to Interfax-Ukraine.

‘The SSU performs various missions: operational and combat, counterintelligence, counter-sabotage, antiterrorist. Our officers are involved in hot spots, from Snake Island to Severodonetsk. These are top servicemen, those who are on the most difficult missions,’ Vasyl Maliuk emphasized.

He spoke about how counterintelligence and military counterintelligence had been reformatted to perform combat tasks as efficiently as possible on the front line, in the de-occupied territories and in the rear.

‘Take even our latest results – the SSU’s high-profile operations, counteraction to russian special services and exposing intelligence networks, investigation of war crimes, detention of collaborators, return of our Defenders home and exchange of Medvedchuk for Azov fighters. All of this is the SSU’s contribution to our Victory,’ Vasyl Maliuk noted.

According to the SSU Acting Head, 80% of what the SSU does remains under the Secret and Top Secret stamps. However, since the war started, the SSU personnel have received over 200 state awards, including For Courage, Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Orders and three Heroes of Ukraine.’

Answering the question where Vasyl Maliuk himself met the beginning of the war, the SSU Acting Head told how in the first days of russia’s invasion, together with colleagues from the National Guard and the Defence Intelligence, he went to face the enemy on Hostomel direction.

‘We were working on a number of things - mined roads and approaches to Kyiv. The main task was to cut off the enemy’s logistics on the outskirts of Kyiv, on Chornobyl axis. To do this, we quickly created a unit in the SSU, which was joined by an agent force from among concerned citizens. We destroyed the enemy’s rear control point, and many other things were carried out. But, unfortunately, there we also had our first losses,’ Vasyl Maliuk added.

Further on, Vasyl Maliuk organized the Service’s operational and combat activity on Donetsk, Luhansk and Kherson directions.

‘We also immediately established effective cooperation with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which now brings huge results - the enemy feels them every day when they count the number of destroyed equipment and personnel. Together with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we carry out successful multi-stage operations. I would like to use this opportunity to thank our sworn brothers for cooperation,’ the SSU Acting Head remarked.
