SSU demonstrates new generation of legendary Sea Baby maritime drones (video)
The Security Service of Ukraine has unveiled a new generation of Sea Baby unmanned maritime platforms. These drones have already been tested in successful missions in the Black Sea. For example, they played a part in the third attack on the Crimean bridge, on 3 June 2025.
‘Our drones have changed the balance of power in the Black Sea and proven their effectiveness. The Sea Baby’s new generation is even more effective. Therefore, our efforts to clear the Black Sea of the russian fleet will continue. The enemy will feel the full force of our technological developments,’ said the SSU Head Lieutenant General Vasyl Maliuk.
According to SSU Brigadier General Ivan Lukashevych (‘Hunter’), the Sea Babies delivered explosives to the desired location during this year’s attack on the Crimean bridge. These explosives were then used to blow up the supports of this illegal structure.
The new Sea Baby modifications were built with funds raised by Ukrainians via the UNITED24 fundraising platform.
According to ‘Hunter’, one of the Chiefs of the SSU Military Counterintelligence overseeing its 13th Main Directorate, the upgraded drones can cover distances of over 1,500 km, carry up to 2,000 kg of cargo, and have reinforced engines and a modern navigation system.
The SSU development team demonstrated two drones equipped with different weapons. The first has a gyro-stabilised machine gun mount with an auto-capture and target recognition system. The second carries heavy weapons: a 10-round Grad multiple launch rocket system.
‘The Security Service of Ukraine is the ideologist of a new type of naval warfare. We are constantly looking for effective means to maintain Ukraine’s superiority in the Black Sea for as long as possible. President Volodymyr Zelenskyi tasked us with neutralising the powerful russian Black Sea fleet. We are actively working on this,’ emphasised Ivan Lukashevych.
The Security Service is developing other models of the latest weapons and has already successfully used them in the Black Sea. However, detailed information on these is not yet open.
Ukraine’s broader use of unmanned platforms has forced russia to redeploy most of its military vessels to the bay of Novorossiysk and allowed Ukraine to unblock the grain corridor.
