SSU investigates head of terrorists’ illegal prison Izoliatsiia: investigators to identify victims of torture

The SSU is conducting pre-trial investigation in criminal proceeding against one of the former leaders of the so-called DNR, head of the Izoliatsiia illegal prison. Under his supervision, terrorists kept in custody and tortured citizens, including Ukrainian military servicemen.

The criminal was detained in Kyiv during the SSU special operation.

The investigation established that this individual was in charge of the militants’ prison, set up in 2014 at the former insulation material plant in the temporarily occupied Donetsk. To this prison, terrorists brought illegally detained Ukrainians. Instructed by the head, his subordinates subjected people to violence and psychological pressure.

Moreover, the detained militant personally participated in torture.

The SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion of committing crimes under:

  • Article 258-3 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization);
  • Article 260-1 (participation in paramilitary or armed formations not stipulated by law);
  • Article 28-2, 438-1 (violation of the laws and customs of war, committed by a group of persons upon prior conspiracy);
  • Article 149-2 (hiding, transfer and receiving of a person for the purpose of exploitation with use of coercion and other dependence of the victim, committed against several persons, upon prior conspiracy by a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court has chosen detention as a measure of restraint.

The SSU investigators are identifying all victims of the suspect’s unlawful activities.
