SSU conducts drills near Belarus border: ‘sabotage’ at military facility prevented

The SSU continues its efforts of preventing and neutralizing the threat of intelligence and subversive activities against Ukraine. During multi-stage interagency exercises in Zhytomyr region, the security units practiced joint actions to neutralize sabotage groups.

The training near Belarus border was carried out in conditions as close as to reality as possible.

According to the scenario, an enemy sabotage group arrives in the border area to destabilize the situation in the region. To do this, they try to break into one of the military units to carry out a series of explosions.

The units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine blocked the group’s attempts to secretly enter the strategic facility and neutralized two of the saboteurs.

The SSU special-purpose unit located and neutralized other members of the enemy group, who were hiding in an abandoned building not far from the border.

The purpose of the training was to test and practice interagency cooperation in preventing and responding to threats of sabotage and terrorism.

The participants of the drills were the units of the SSU, the Armed Forces, the National Police, the State Emergency Service, the National Guard, as well as representatives of state authorities and local government.

After the training, the organizers analyzed the state of anti-sabotage protection of the military facility and provided additional recommendations on how to improve algorithms of joint actions.

The exercise was conducted by the Coordination Group of the Counterterrorism Center at the SSU Office in Zhytomyr region.
