Lutsk region: SBU investigates suspect holding hostages in bus
Maksym Kryvosh suspected of capturing the passengers of the Krasnylivka-Berestechko bus is in a temporary detention facility. The SBU Office in Volyn region head Pavlo Daniukov reported the situation at a joint briefing with the head of the State Unitary Enterprise of the Regional National Police Yurii Kroshko.
The offender was detained according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. "Investigations are ongoing to establish suspect’s ties, weapons channels and alleged accomplices," the SBU Office head emphasized.
In the framework of criminal proceedings SBU investigators are going to serve him of suspicion notice of committing crimes stipulated by Part 1 Art. 258 (terrorist attack), Art. 263 (illegal arms and explosives handling), Art. 348 (attempt on law enforcement officer’s life), Art. 147 (hostage-taking) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Afterwards, SBU investigators will file notice at the court to choose the suspect a type of detention. " The judge will determine the date and time of hearing", Pavlo Daniukov said.
A number of forensic examinations have already been appointed in the proceedings. Investigation is underway.
Moreover, the head of the SBU Office provided details of Maksym Kryvosh's detention. After negotiations with the criminal, he began to strictly fulfil the legal requirements of the law enforcement. As a result, he got off the bus to meet a police officer and an SBU officer disguised as a doctor. The suspect raised his hands to search him for the possible explosives. Later, he was detained because of the risk of detonating the bomb.
During the operation, all the law enforcement activities were aimed at saving hostages’ life. "None of them need medical aid. Their condition is satisfactory," the SBU Office head added.
