SSU, together with Defence Forces, hits moscow oil refinery – key supplier of fuel to russian capital
Executing orders of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the SSU Special Operations Centre Alfa, together with other defence forces, successfully struck the Moscow oil refinery in the moscow region, russia. The target is located approximately 500 kilometres from Ukraine’s state border.
This is moscow’s largest oil refinery. It supplies a significant portion of the russian capital’s fuel market, providing key volumes of petrol and over 50% of the region’s diesel, as well as fuel for moscow’s airports.
A large fire broke out in the area of the facility as a result of the strike. According to preliminary reports, a primary oil refining unit, the ‘heart’ of the plant, has been damaged.
In addition, SSU drones successfully targeted the infrastructure of the ‘Poltavskaya’ oil depot in the Krasnodar krai during the night. A fire also broke out there.
Notably, the oil industry is a major source of revenue for the russian budget, which finances the war against Ukraine. Striking such facilities incurs multi-million-dollar losses for the aggressor state, disrupts production and logistics chains, and reduces russia’s economic capacity to continue its armed aggression.
