SBU refers indictment against Russian FSB officer in court

The Security Service of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General’s Office, referred an indictment against an official of the Russia’s FSB Department of Counterintelligence Operations in court. This happened according to a special pre-trial investigation.

This person is accused of the crime by prior conspiracy with a former SBU officer, Major General Valerii Shaitanov. The FSB official as an organizer committed a completed attempt to commit a terrorist act in 2019-2020. This should have led to the death of ATO volunteer Adam Osmayev.

We recall that in April 2020, the SBU conducted a multi-stage special operation to expose Valerii Shaitanov and made the case for his cooperation with the Russian special services.

The indictment is under way on the charge of Valerii Shaitanov in crimes under 5 articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 1 Art. 111 (High treason);
  • Part 2 Art. 15 (Criminal attempt);
  • Part 5 Art. 27 (Complicity in crime);
  • Part 3 Art. 258 (Creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization);
  • Part 1 Art. 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).
