SSU, National Police and Czech law enforcement expose hackers who stole from bank accounts and crypto wallets of EU and US citizens

The cyber units of the Security Service of Ukraine jointly with the National Police and with the assistance of the law enforcement agencies of the Czech Republic carried out a large-scale special operation to dismantle a transnational hacker group.

As a result of joint action in Ukraine and the EU, two organizers (developers) and key members of the group have been exposed.

The cyber criminals stole personal data and robbed bank accounts and cryptocurrency wallets of EU and US citizens, doing this with the help of malware developed by them.

According to the investigation, the perpetrators sent phishing emails with embedded malware to gain access to their victims’ computers.

After hacking, they stole personal data stored on the devices, which was then used to steal funds from the electronic accounts and wallets of virtual assets.

The investigation also revealed that the cyber gang sold their software on hacker forums, including to groups controlled by russian special services.

During the searches of the suspects’ homes in Ukraine and the EU, the investigators seized computer equipment, mobile phones, crypto wallets and flash drives with evidence of the crimes.

All participants of the crime ring have been notified of suspicion under Article 361-1.2 of the CCU (creation of malicious software or hardware for the purpose of unlawful use, distribution or sale, as well as their distribution or sale, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).

The investigation is ongoing to bring to justice all those involved in the group’s activities. The hackers face real prison terms.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
