SSU and SBI detain GRU agent who spied on Kharkiv defenders as local forester

In Kharkiv, the SSU and the State Bureau of Investigations have apprehended another agent of russian military intelligence. He is a local forester who spied on Ukrainian troops defending the city.

To collect information, the agent recorded the locations of the AFU units on the territory of the state forestry.

During reconnaissance raids, he covertly surveilled Ukrainian checkpoints and fortifications.

In addition to coordinates of military facilities, he also tried to establish approximate number of personnel and types of weapons.

The spy put the obtained data on Google maps to prepare a report for the GRU.

The SSU Counterintelligence documented his criminal actions and detained him at his home. Action was taken to protect the AFU positions.

As the investigation established, the traitor communicated with the occupiers through his friend who left for russia at the beginning of the full-scale war.

This ‘liaison’ was in contact with an officer of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (the GRU).

An anonymous chat in a messenger app was used for communication.

During the search, a mobile phone with evidence of his reconnaissance and sabotage activities was seized.

Investigators served the forester a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
