SSU and SBI detain enemy agent in Kyiv region who leaked data on ex-convicts fighting for Ukraine to FSB

In Kyiv oblast, the Security Service of Ukraine jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations and with the assistance of the Ministry of Justice apprehended an agent of the aggressor state. He is the head of the department for social, educational and psychological work of one of the penal colonies in Kyiv region and was recruited by russia’s federal security service.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator leaked information to the occupiers about former prisoners who are now fighting in the assault units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces at the front line.

The enemy was interested in the personal data of persons who had been convicted, the dates of their release from punishment, and the military units where they were performing combat missions.

The ruscists planned to use this information to establish the locations of the Defense Forces and attempt to recruit Ukrainian soldiers.

To obtain the intelligence, the agent used his access to documents that contained personal information about former prisoners, their profiles and deployment to the front.

The law enforcement agencies documented the traitor’s sabotage activities and caught him in the act when he tried to send the data to the FSB.

Simultaneously, action was taken to protect the locations of the Defense Forces.

During the searches, five mobile phones and several SIM cards, which the suspect used to communicate with his russian handler, were seized.

In exchange for cooperation, russia promised their asset extraction to the temporarily occupied Luhansk, from where he came to Kyiv region in 2014.

Based on the evidence, the detainee was served a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region jointly with the SBI under the procedural supervision of Kyiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
