SSU and NABU investigate possible misappropriation of humanitarian aid by top officials in Zaporizhzhia region

The SSU Counterintelligence together with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau are carrying out a series of searches in Zaporizhzhia.

These actions are taking place in connection with possible misappropriation of humanitarian aid provided to Zaporizhzhia region since the start of russia’s large-scale invasion.

Among other things, investigators are conducting searches in:

  • the city ​​council;
  • the regional military administration;
  • warehouses and homes of suspects.

During the searches in Zaporizhzhia City Council, investigators found:

  • substances similar to narcotics, which have been sent for forensic examination;
  • unregistered firearms and ammunition for them;
  • a large amount of cash.

An investigation is currently underway under three articles of the CCU:

  • 191.5 (appropriation, embezzlement of property or taking possession of it by abuse of office, committed in particularly large amounts or by an organized group);
  • 209.3 (legalization (laundering) of assets obtained through criminal means, committed by an organized group or in a particularly large amount);
  • 368-5 (illegal enrichment).

NABU detectives are investigating the case at the request of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.
