SSU and National Police detain enemy agent plotting terrorist attack in Zhytomyr posing as postal courier
The SSU Counterintelligence and the National Police have foiled a new attempt by ruscists to carry out a terrorist attack in Zhytomyr. As a result of pre-emptive actions, an enemy agent was detained – she was preparing to blow up the administrative building of one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the regional centre.
The investigation revealed that the suspect was to pose as a courier and deliver a parcel, in which an IED was placed, to the site.
After the ‘parcel’ was handed over, the russian intelligence planned to detonate it remotely.
The SSU foiled the hostile plot and detained the agent after she had prepared the explosives and purchased a uniform from a well-known postal delivery service.
The investigation revealed that the perpetrator is a drug-addicted resident of Izmail in the Odesa region, recruited by russia. She was spotted by the russian intelligence while searching Telegram channels for ‘easy and quick earnings’.
After the recruitment, the woman was deployed to Zhytomyr, where she rented an apartment and began making an improvised explosive device following instructions from two russian handlers.
It has been documented that they instructed her to equip the bomb with metal nuts and bolts, as well as a mobile phone for remote activation.
The suspect then conducted further reconnaissance near the potential ‘target’ and coordinated the time and location of the planned terrorist attack with the russian intelligence.
At the same time, she photographed and filmed the perimeters of other military facilities in Zhytomyr, near which the aggressor state was preparing subsequent bombings.
During the search of the traitor’s rented apartment, investigators seized a ready-to-use improvised explosive device, chemical components for making explosives, a courier’s uniform, and a smartphone containing evidence of preparations for the attack.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of her status as a suspect under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zhytomyr Region in cooperation with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Zhytomyr Region Prosecutor’s Office.
