The SSU and the National Police have apprehended two enemy agents who carried out a contract terrorist attack in Khmelnytskyi region on February 5. They used a courier from a delivery service to bring explosives to the target identified by the russian intelligence services.

As a result of the explosion near a territorial recruitment center in Kamianets-Podilskyi, the courier was killed on the spot and eight people received injuries of varying severity.

Within a day of the attack, both perpetrators were detained, their connection to the russian intelligence – documented.

The terrorists are a local drug addict and a 17-year-old student at a city college, recruited through a Telegram channel offering ‘easy’ money.

The two agents acted separately but had a common russian handler.

Following his instructions, the underage asset made an improvised explosive device. To maximize the damage, he stuffed it with nuts and rebar scraps, equipping it with a mobile phone for remote detonation.

He then planted the IED in a cache and passed the geolocation to the FSB handler.

The latter provided the coordinates to the drug addict agent, who later took the bomb.

He was to deliver the IED as a ‘parcel’ to the TRC building. Realizing that he might be eliminated ‘as a witness’, he ordered a delivery.

When the courier arrived at the TRC, the occupiers detonated the explosives with him.

During the searches, mobile phones with evidence of contacts with russian intelligence services, as well as tools and components for making IEDs were seized from the suspects.

Both detainees have been notified of suspicion under Article 258.3 of the CCU (terrorist act resulting in the death of a person).

The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Khmelnytskyi region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Khmelnytskyi Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Western region.
