SSU and National Police detain enemy agents – husband and wife who made explosive device for terrorist attack near territorial recruitment center in Dnipro
The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have apprehended another two individuals involved in the terrorist attack in Dnipro on 14 December 2024.
Then, a terrorist recruited by russian intelligence services detonated explosives near an administrative building of a local territorial recruitment center.
One person was killed and several have been seriously wounded, including two police officers.
Within hours of the attack, the law enforcement detained the perpetrator of the crime, a 37-year-old local resident who acted on the instructions of russian intelligence services.
Now, two agents, who acted separately from the executor and made an improvised explosive device for him, have been detained.
They are a 33-year-old deserter, who left a Ukrainian military unit without permission and was hiding in Dnipro, and his 25-year-old wife.
While looking for easy money on Telegram channels, they came to the attention of the russian intelligence and were recruited remotely.
Following their instructions, the couple manufactured the explosive device, put it in a plastic bag and hid in a cache.
After that, the traitors remotely watched the executor take the IED from the cache and reported that to their russian handler via a messenger app.
Not to look suspicious during their sorties, the agents took their 3-year-old child with them.
After the attack, the family moved to another rented apartment. There, they tried to lay low in order to continue their cooperation with russia.
The law enforcement detained both suspects at the new address. During the search, mobile phones and clothes with evidence of the crimes, as well as russian instructions for making IEDs, were seized.
Both detainees were notified of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 258.2, 258.3 (terrorist act, committed upon prior conspiracy, by a group, resulting in the death of a person);
- 14.1 (preparation for a crime).
The perpetrator of the attack had been notified of suspicion earlier. All three suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Dnipro Office jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
