Kyiv region: SSU and National Police detain russian accomplices who set fire to Ukrainian servicemen`s and volunteers` cars
The SSU and the National Police detained an unmarried couple who were carrying out russian tasks of setting fire to Defense Forces cars in Kyiv region.
Following SSU investigation, to destroy Ukrainian defenders’ cars, occupiers recruited 25-year-old resident of Cherkasy region and his 20-year-old partner who were looking for quick money on the Internet.
In early July, an aggressor representative responded to their ‘resume’ and offered them money in exchange for AFU`s cars elimination.
The defendants came to one of the villages on the outskirts of Kyiv where they were looking for the servicemen`s cars to carry out the enemy`s task. Once they had identified three potential targets, they photographed them and sent the photos to their curator for ‘approval’.
Following his command, the couple arrived at the ‘right’ locations at a certain time, where they attempted to set fire to three cars during one night – an AFU minivan, a minibus and an off-road vehicle, which had been brought to Ukraine by volunteers to be delivered to the Defense Forces.
While at the scene of the crime, the defendants filmed the vehicle on fire to provide a ‘report’ to their curator.
The SSU and National Police officers detained both offenders without delay and seized an incendiary mixture and mobile phones used to receive instructions from the aggressor.
Following SSU investigation, the communication between the curator and the defendants took place in an anonymous chat on a popular messenger.
The SSU officers served both perpetrators suspicion notices under Article 28.2 and Article 114-1.1 of the CCU (obstruction of lawful activity of the AFU and other military formations, committed by prior conspiracy of a group of persons).
The decision on their measure of restraint is yet to be made. The offenders face up to 8 years in prison.
The operation was conducted by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Kyiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
