SSU and National Police detain enemy agents who tried to blow up police squad near Rivne
The Security Service and National Police have apprehended enemy accomplices who, on orders from russia, carried out a terrorist attack against law enforcement officers in Rivne region.
According to the investigation, the perpetrators attempted to blow up a police patrol that responded to a fake call to 102 in an abandoned building outside the city.
During the call to the emergency line, an anonymous person reported finding a body with signs of violent death.
After the police arrived at the scene, an explosion occurred. Thanks to the professional actions of the law enforcement, no one was injured.
The SSU and National Police team quickly apprehended the executors of the terrorist attack: two 18-year-old residents of Rivne who were carrying out orders of russian special services.
To commit the crime, they followed the occupiers’ instructions and made two improvised explosive devices, which they equipped with combat grenades, nuts, and phones for remote detonation.
The terrorists took all the components from a cache, the coordinates of which they received from their russian handler via a messenger app.
The young men then disguised the ‘explosive trap’ at the site of the planned attack. To track the arrival of the police, they installed motion sensors and video cameras with remote access for russian special services.
After preparations, the terrorists went to their homes, hoping to lay low and receive the promised cryptocurrency transfer from the occupiers, but to no avail.
Both suspects were detained. During the inspection of the site of the terrorist attack, a second IED was found, which did not detonate after attempts by the russians to activate it.
SSU investigators have notified the detainees of suspicion under Article 258.2 of the CCU (terrorist act).
The suspects are in custody and face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Rivne Office in cooperation with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
