SSU and National Police detain three accomplices of russian intelligence services who carried out arsons in Kyiv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions

The SSU and the National Police have apprehended another three accomplices of russian special services who committed arsons in several regions of Ukraine. The targets of attacks were Ukrposhta [Ukraine’s Post] offices and military vehicles of the Defense Forces.

In Kyiv:

A 41-year-old car mechanic from a Kyiv service station was detained for setting fire to a local Ukrposhta office and two vehicles belonging to Ukrainian servicemen on the orders of russia’s FSB.

To carry out the arson, the attacker drained gasoline from the tanks of private cars that were undergoing maintenance at his station and used it as an incendiary mixture.

Then, to destroy the evidence, he cut the bicycle he used to move around the city to reconnoiter potential targets into scrap metal.

Another detainee is a 15-year-old Kyiv resident who set fire to another post office and sent a photo report to his russian handler.

To burn the premises, the teenager broke the window of the state institution and poured a flammable mixture on its windowsill.

In Prykarpattia region:

Another enemy accomplice was detained for burning a military vehicle that had been brought for repairs after combat missions at the front.

The perpetrator is a 36-year-old gambling addict from Ivano-Frankivsk. The individual had previously been prosecuted for theft.

As the investigation revealed, he hoped to receive money from the occupiers to keep playing at an online casino.

Instead of payments from the aggressor, all the detained individuals got notices of suspicion (in accordance with the crimes committed) under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 114-1.1 (obstruction of the AFU’s lawful activities during a special period);
  • 194.2 (intentional destruction or damage to property by arson).

The suspects are in custody and face up to 10 years in prison.

The operations were carried out by the SSU Offices in Kyiv and Kyiv region and in Ivano-Frankivsk region under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Offices.

The Security Service of Ukraine has launched a special chatbot ‘Burn the FSB-man’ t.me/spaly_fsb_bot to collect information about recruitment attempts by russian intelligence services. It was created in Telegram, as the enemy most often uses this platform to involve Ukrainian citizens, especially young people and minors, in arson attacks on Ukrainian Armed Forces vehicles, territorial recruitment centers, bomb threats and various kinds of sabotage and terrorist attacks.
