SSU and National Police detain another nine dealers who tried to trade in ‘trophy’ weapons in Ukraine
The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have apprehended nine individuals who tried to set up illegal sale of ‘trophy’ weapons in several regions of Ukraine.
The seized items include components for combat drones, anti-tank grenade launchers, Kalashnikov rifles and explosives.
The investigation established that the perpetrators transported weapons and ammunition from the frontline areas in the south and east of Ukraine.
In Kharkiv region, the SSU Military Counterintelligence disrupted an attempt to clandestinely sell components for drones, including optical sights for attack UAVs.
One of the commanders of a local military unit was involved in organizing the crime and was detained red-handed.
In Mykolaiv region, two residents of the liberated Snihurivka who tried to sell russian Dzhmil and Aglen grenade launchers were apprehended.
In Kirovohrad region, two deserters were detained for selling ‘trophy’ assault rifles and combat grenades.
Another suspect was detained in Cherkasy region. He is a local resident with a previous conviction for spreading russian propaganda, who now decided to use his criminal connections to trade in weapons.
In Zakarpattia region, three more individuals were detained. They acted separately in different parts of the region. Two of them had already been prosecuted for drug trafficking and theft.
The law enforcement agencies documented how they tried to sell over 8 kg of TNT with detonators and an arsenal of combat grenades.
Based on the evidence, the detainees have been notified of suspicion under Article 263.1 of the CCU (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).
The suspects are in custody and face up to 7 years in prison.
The operations were carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Offices.
