SSU and National Police detain FSB agent in Odesa who manufactured explosives for terrorist attacks in Ukraine
In Odesa, the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police apprehended an enemy agent who manufactured improvised explosive devices for terrorist attacks in Ukraine on FSB’s orders.
One of these bombs was used by ruscists against Ukrainian law enforcement officers in the town of Bilyayivka on 23 March this year.
A local resident, recruited by the FSB, brought a package with the IED to the local police department. A few minutes later, the occupiers remotely detonated the device together with their agent.
The individual who manufactured and handed over the explosive device to the perpetrator of the attack via a courier has now been detained.
According to the investigation, he is a 44-year-old repeat offender from Dnipropetrovsk region who was wanted for theft and was hiding from justice in Odesa.
He came to the attention of the FSB, which noticed him on Telegram channels when he was looking for ‘quick money’.
After recruitment, the asset performed test tasks: he set fire to several cars of Ukrainian servicemen in Odesa.
Later, he moved to a rented apartment paid for by the russian service. He used this flat as a workshop for making IEDs according to the FSB’s instructions.
After the attack in Bilyayivka, the agent went into hiding. Trying to confuse the law enforcement, he regularly changed his mobile phone numbers and places of stay.
The SSU found the suspect and detained him.
A new explosive disguised as a fire extinguisher with additional destructive elements and a phone for remote activation was seized during searches of his home.
The enemy planned to use this explosive device in the near future to carry out another terrorist attack in the region.
SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 258.3 of the CCU (terrorist act that resulted in the death of a person).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Odesa Office and the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
