SSU and Prosecutor’s Office uncover dealers selling rear positions to military personnel

The SSU Military Counterintelligence and investigators, in cooperation with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, have dismantled a large-scale scheme for selling rear military positions in Kyiv region.

For bribes ranging from USD 15 000 to 25 000, the perpetrators helped military personnel transfer to units not involved in front-line operations.

The group also offered their ‘clients’ dismissal from military service on the basis of fictitious certificates of ‘sudden deterioration of health’.

Two residents of the capital, the organizers of the scheme, have been detained in Kyiv. To carry out their illegal activity, they enlisted the help of five acquaintances, medical professionals.

According to the investigation, the organizers found ‘clients’ and arranged for their fictitious hospitalization.

Depending on the amount of the bribe, the ‘patients’ were given the status of partially fit or completely unfit for military service, with subsequent transfer to ‘non-combat’ positions or dismissal to the reserve.

The Security Service documented the crime and detained the individuals involved when they received money from ‘clients’.

Cash obtained by criminal means and forged documents were seized during searches.

SSU investigators notified the detainees of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 114-1.1 (obstruction of lawful activities of the AFU, during a special period);
  • 369-2.3 (abuse of influence).

The suspects face up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing.

The activities were carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
