SSU and PGO declare putin’s spiritual mentor suspect

The Security Service of Ukraine has collected evidence against metropolitan Georgy Shevkunov (also known as Tikhon), a senior figure in the russian orthodox church who supports russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and justifies the war crimes committed by ruscists.

The suspect is putin’s chief spiritual adviser and one of the kremlin regime’s leading ideologues.

The investigation revealed that Tikhon was among the first to support russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and called for assistance to be provided to the aggressor state’s armed groupings.

It has been established that as early as 2023 he was appointed head of the so-called Crimean metropolis of the russian orthodox church on the Ukrainian peninsula.

In this role, the cleric exploited the diocese’s resources to promote ruscism throughout the temporarily occupied part of Ukraine.

Furthermore, Tikhon regularly makes public appearances in which he justifies the strikes on Ukrainian cities and campaigns for the continued occupation of our entire country.

A specialist analysis initiated by the Security Service confirmed the facts of his subversive information activities in the interests of the aggressor state.

Based on the evidence gathered, SSU investigators have notified metropolitan Tikhon in absentia that he is suspected of offences under two Articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • 110.2 (encroachment upon the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine);
  • 436-2.3 (justifying, recognising as lawful or denying russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and glorifying its participants).

Efforts to bring him to justice for crimes against our state are underway.

The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
