SBU uncovers batch of diamonds at Boryspil International Airport
SBU discovered a diamond consignment at Boryspil International Airport, which was intended to be smuggled into Ukraine, bypassing customs control.
According to the intelligence, two Ukrainian women, returning home from the Middle East country, were about to import the jewelry into Ukraine. The law enforcement found 38 bags of diamonds weighing over 50 grams in women's personal belongings. The estimated value of the diamonds was almost UAH 17 million (USD 586,206,897).
A report on violation of customs regulations is being completed. SBU officers seized all the bags of diamonds from the smugglers.
The operation was carried out by the SBU Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service and State Customs Service.
