The Security Service of Ukraine is working proactively to counter the enemy’s intelligence and sabotage activity and has already uncovered 11 agent networks since the beginning of 2024.

This was announced by the SSU Head Vasyl Maliuk during his speech at the Congress of Local and Regional Councils under the President of Ukraine.

‘Today the SSU manages to work proactively. First of all, this is due to systemic and new counterintelligence approaches. Because we do not detain a single traitor, but, usually, the entire chain. In 2023, the SSU dismantled 47 intelligence networks, all the perpetrators were detained. Since the beginning of this year, another 11 enemy agent networks have been uncovered,’ the SSU Head informed.

The Security Service counteracts to enemy intrusion of critical infrastructure facilities, including through cyber domain. It also blocks attempts to spy on international aid routes, locations of defence industry companies, etc.

Recently, the SSU detained an FSB agent in Dnipro who was taking photos and videos of a local thermal power plant to prepare enemy missile strikes, a former ‘militsiya’ officer in Zaporizhzhia monitoring defence industry plants, and several Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) employees who were providing data to the enemy on the logistics of weapons movement.

‘We have a clear mission from President Volodymyr Zelenskyi: to prevent any challenges. And we are fulfilling it to protect the lives of citizens and state security,’ Vasyl Maliuk emphasized.

He added that since the beginning of 2024 the SSU had opened 352 criminal proceedings for high treason (98 people have been convicted), 807 – for collaboration (177 convicted), 108 – for aiding the aggressor state (7 convicted), 66 – for passing information on the AFU to the enemy (19 convicted).

For example, the FSB agent who adjusted the missile strike on downtown Kramatorsk in June 2023 was sentenced to life imprisonment.

According to the SSU Head, one of the preventive tools for detecting enemy agents is regular anti-terrorist and counter-sabotage measures.
