SSU exposes FSB agent spying on Defence Forces airfields in Cherkasy region

The SSU Counterintelligence has detained an agent of russia’s federal security service who attempted to identify and pass to the aggressor state the coordinates of airfields in Cherkasy region.

The investigation established that the perpetrator was a 21-year-old student at one of the region’s universities. He came to the enemy’s attention when looking for ‘easy money’ on Telegram.

Once the airfields were identified, the agent was to gather additional information about the presence of combat aircraft and military personnel at them.

To collect intelligence, the traitor drove around the area, photographing the airfield infrastructure from a distance.

Later, the spy moved to Kyiv, where he hoped to lay low for a while before continuing his ‘work’ for the russian intelligence.

The SSU Counterintelligence exposed the enemy accomplice and apprehended him in the capital.

Simultaneously, action was taken to protect the Defence Forces locations.

A smartphone, which the suspect used to coordinate his activities with his FSB handler, was seized during the search.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
