SSU detains enemy agent plotting series of terrorist attacks near administrative buildings in Odesa region
The SSU Counterintelligence and investigators have prevented a series of terrorist attacks in the Odesa region. Following an operation in Izmail, an enemy agent has been detained. Acting on russia’s orders, she had been planning to carry out car bombings targeting the Defence Forces near the administrative buildings of Ukrainian military and law enforcement agencies.
The investigation revealed that the perpetrator is a 27-year-old resident of the Zhytomyr region who was recruited by the russian intelligence services via Telegram channels offering ‘easy money’.
After recruitment, the agent travelled to the port city where she rented a flat and received instructions from the russians on how to manufacture three improvised explosive devices.
To enable remote detonation, she fitted each bomb with a mobile phone and an electric detonator and filled them with metal nuts to increase their destructive power.
Meanwhile, the enemy asset also carried out further reconnaissance near defence agencies in the city and took photographs and videos of Defence Forces vehicles parked nearby.
Utilizing these data, the occupying forces were enabled to plan potential acts of terrorism and special information operations.
The SSU uncovered the plot at an early stage, detaining the agent while she was preparing an IED concealed in a bag, awaiting instructions from her handler on where to plant the bomb.
Mobile phones were seized from her during a search, along with two prepared explosive devices and components for the IED.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Articles 14.1, 258.2 of the CCU (preparation to a terrorist act).
The suspect is custody without bail and faces up to 12 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Odesa region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
