SSU exposes russian GRU network that spied on Defence Forces at Yavoriv training ground (video)
As a result of a multi-stage special operation in Lviv oblast, the SSU Military Counterintelligence dismantled an intelligence network of the main directorate of the general staff of russian armed forces (aka ‘the GRU’).
Its agents were two Ukrainian military servicemen and a doctor, deployed as part of different units on the territory of Yavoriv military training range.
According to the investigation, they were recruited before the start of russia’s full-scale invasion by an officer of the russian military intelligence service. After February 24, 2022, they began collecting information for the aggressor.
Each asset had his own ‘line’ of reconnaissance and sabotage activity against Ukraine. Messenger apps were used for communication.
The investigators established that one of the agents had regularly provided the GRU with intelligence on locations of individual Ukrainian units on the territory of the training facility.
The traitor also tried to collect information on the results of the Defence Forces’ international military cooperation.
The SSU exposed the enemy informant when he was conducting reconnaissance.
SSU investigators have notified him of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU).
Another GRU agent tried to pass to his handler information on visits of Ukraine’s military and political leadership to a medical facility in the oblast.
The third enemy asset is an official of the AFU’s training unit. He provided intelligence to the occupiers on deployment of the Defence Forces’ combat units and locations of military equipment.
SSU investigators have served him a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on deployment of the AFU, committed under martial law).
Investigative actions are ongoing to bring the exposed enemy agents to justice for crimes against Ukraine. They are facing up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.
The SSU documented the crimes under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.
