In Kharkiv region, the SBU suspended a large-scale embezzlement of budget funds. The officials had to pay pensions to citizens from the separatist-held territories. However, they misappropriated the said money.

The SBU documented that officials of the Pension Fund and bank managers are involved into the illegal activity.

The perpetrators entered false information about pension payments to citizens from the separatist-held territories into the data base. Then, they issued debit cards and received funds. For several years, the officials misappropriated over UAH 5 m. (USD 186,000).

The SBU seized illegally issued bank cards and draft documents proving illegal activity.

The SBU served two perpetrators the suspicion notices of fraud; unauthorized dissemination and distribution of information with restricted access, which is stored in the electronic computing machines, automated systems, computer networks or information-carrying medium.

The operation was carried out jointly with National Police investigators under the supervision of the Kharkiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
