SSU exposes recruitment of Ukrainians to participate in Syrian hostilities

SSU exposed three perpetrators of recruiting Ukrainian citizens to participate in hostilities in favour of military units of the Syrian Arab Republic.

A 27-year-old resident of Kyiv city and two residents of the Kyiv region jointly recruited trained combatants throughout Ukraine.

Mercenaries were promised from USD 5,000 to USD 10,000 per month for participation in the armed conflict in Syria.

The targets for recruitment were the athletes, servicemen, volunteers who participated in the ATO or with any other weapons experience.

During the searches at the places of residence of the perpetrators were seized:

  • Mobile Phones;
  • SIM cards;
  • computer equipment;
  • flash drives;
  • bank cards.

The pre-trial investigation is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice for the mercenary activities.

The suspects were remanded in custody.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Main Directorate in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the supervision of the Donetsk Region Prosecutor's Office.
