SBU exposes health officials on large-scale embezzlement
The SBU disrupted large-scale corruption scheme in the Primary Health Care Center of one of the Kyiv districts. The health officials embezzled UAH 6.3 m. (USD 235,000), allocated for the medical staff salaries. The suspects managed to carry out the illegal activity during 2013-2019.
Pursuant to the SBU investigation, the chief physician, three deputy chief physicians and the chief accountant of the medical institution received suspicion notices.
Allegedly, the health officials set up a mechanism for misappropriating budget money through hiring ghost employees. The suspects involved their acquaintances and paid them salary.
However, in fact, these "employees" never showed up at work, and their "salary" was appropriated by the organizers of the scheme.
During the search of the medical institution offices, as well as of the offices of a Kyiv District State Administration, the law enforcement officers seized documents proving the illegal activities.
The investigation is ongoing upon misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation.
Other participants of the illegal scheme are to receive notices of suspicion.
The operation was carried out by the SBU Main Directorate in the Kyiv city and Kyiv region together with the National Police investigators under the supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
