Kyiv region: SBU exposes corrupt leadership of Brovary Department of State Food and Consumer Service
SBU exposed the leadership of the Brovary Department of the State Food and Consumer Service in Kyiv region on organization of a corruption scheme.
The SBU operatives established that the officials extorted illegal benefit from businessmen. For bribes, officials guaranteed the unimpeded receipt of permits required for the sale of products, in particular, ensuring a satisfactory laboratory report and the issuance of a veterinary certificate of the required form. For this "package of services" officials demanded USD 1.1 thousand.
During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers documented three episodes of receiving money by one of the heads of the department (a category B civil servant) and his subordinate from a representative of a commercial structure. The total amount of the bribe comprised over USD 4 thousand. Law enforcers detained offenders while receiving another bribe.
Within the framework of criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the searches at the suspects’ residences and offices are under way.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Main Department of the National Police in Kyiv city investigators under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Local Prosecutor's Office No. 6.
