SBU exposes smuggler of Apple iPhones 12 worth over USD 35,000

The SBU prevented creation of a smuggling channel of highly liquid products of a well-known world manufacturer to Ukraine through Boryspil International Airport.

The SBU established that a resident of Kyiv city tried to establish the channel of wholesale import of mobile phones from a Middle Eastern country without submitting obligatory written declarations and evading customs fees. The dealer planned to transfer the smuggled goods to his accomplice in Odesa city for further sale through retail outlets.

During the baggage check at Boryspil airport, the law enforcement officers found 29 items of iPhone 12, which the suspect tried to hide from customs control. The value of the seized goods is over UAH 1 million (USD 35,300).

The investigation is ongoing to bring the dealers to justice.

The operation was conducted by the Main Directorate for Counterintelligence protection of the state's interests in the sphere of economic security jointly with Kyiv Customs Office of the State Fiscal Service and border guards of the separate controlled border check-point “Kyiv” of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
