SSU exposes spotter who on russia’s behalf installed video traps for strikes on Khmelnytskyi region

The SSU Counterintelligence has thwarted new attempts by the aggressor state to obtain information on defence infrastructure in western Ukraine. As a result of the operation in Khmelnytskyi, an FSB agent who was spying on the bases of Ukrainian defenders has been detained.

The perpetrator was tasked with installing hidden video cameras opposite local buildings where Defence Forces soldiers could be located.

After activating the devices, she was to provide remote access to them for russia’s federal security service. With the help of video traps, the ruscists hoped to direct their air strikes at Ukrainian defenders.

The SSU acted preemptively and detained the traitor on her first attempt to install spy equipment near a military facility.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice turned out to be a 60-year-old local resident who came to FSB’s attention when she visited russia before the start of the full-scale war.

At the beginning of this year, an FSB employee contacted the woman on Telegram and offered her cooperation in exchange for assistance in moving to russia.

After the recruitment, the asset purchased a video camera online and rented premises on the top floor of an office centre, ostensibly to provide cosmetic services.

The woman then installed a video device with remote access for the FSB on the windowsill.

Spy equipment and a smartphone, which she used to coordinate her actions with the FSB handler, were seized during the search.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Khmelnytskyi region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
