SSU exposes Kyiv local who published air defence positions on social media
The SSU’s cyber unit exposed another Kyiv resident who filmed and shared the locations of Ukrainian air defence systems on social media.
The investigation revealed that the woman in question was an associate professor at one of the capital’s universities. She filmed the Defence Forces without authorisation using her mobile phone while travelling on a bus.
She then posted the video on several of her social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
An expert assessment initiated by the SSU confirmed that disseminating classified information about the Defence Forces had harmed Ukraine’s national security.
SSU investigators have notified the perpetrator of her status as a suspect under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorised dissemination of information on deployment of the Armed Forces, enabling their identification on the ground, under martial law).
The investigation is ongoing. The suspect faces up to eight years’ imprisonment.
The investigation is carried out under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
Earlier this week, SSU officers detained a Kyiv resident who had revealed the positions of Ukrainian air defence forces to a pro-kremlin blogger’s Telegram channel.
The Security Service once again urges citizens not to take or share photos or footage of air defence operations or enemy strikes on military installations or Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
The SSU systematically investigates cases of material being disseminated online and holds those responsible to account. This offence is punishable by penalties including imprisonment.
