Lviv region: SSU exposes land fraud worth UAH 20 m

The SSU prevented illegal capture of land of a military town in Lviv region. A head of housing provision unit of the MoD together with his accomplices organized illegal alienation of 1.5-hectare plot in the village of Brukhovychi. According to experts, the state suffered over UAH 20 m (USD 770,000) in losses.

The investigation established that the official abused his position to systematically falsify documents. When approving the certificate of title, the suspect entered untrue data on the placement of boundary signs. This enabled him to seize plots belonging to the MoD.

The next step involved his accomplice, a deputy of the village council, a member of the Land Commission. The official helped ensure that, according to the decision of the Brukhovytska village council, the illegally alienated land was received by the community. Subsequently, the suspects issued a bogus right of ownership for the seized areas, registering them on fictitious persons, and sold them at a price of approximately USD 5-9 thousand per 0.01 ha.

The investigation into abuse of position is underway to bring to justice all individuals involved.

The SSU Office in Lviv region carried out the operation with the SBI under the supervision of Specialized Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Western region.
