SSU exposes large-scale russian information operation targeting Hungarian community in Zakarpattia
The Security Service of Ukraine has exposed a new information and psychological special operation by the russian intelligence services aimed at destabilizing the situation in Zakarpattia region and escalating tensions between Ukraine and Hungary.
The Service has established that the ruscists are using so-called number spoofing technology via IP telephony to carry out this psyop. Specifically, the enemy is making ‘anonymous’ threatening calls from purportedly Ukrainian phone numbers to representatives of the Hungarian national community.
During the conversations, unknown individuals, posing as members of ‘national-patriotic formations’ and even as officers of Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies, demanded that community representatives leave Ukrainian territory and threatened them with physical violence, among other things.
Technical investigations have established that the calls were made from the territory of russia.
The SSU is currently working to block this hostile information and psychological operation.
We urge citizens not to fall for such provocations. If you receive threats or suspicious messages, please immediately inform law enforcement agencies.
