SSU detains FSB agent – minor who tried to burn mobile communication tower in Kirovohrad region

The Security Service of Ukraine has detained an enemy agent who carried out sabotage on critical infrastructure facilities in central Ukraine. The perpetrator is a 17-year-old resident of Kirovohrad region recruited by russia’s federal security service.

According to the investigation, the young man came to the FSB’s attention when he was looking for easy money on Telegram. There, he was approached by a russian handler who offered him cooperation in exchange for quick payments.

On occupiers’ orders, the minor first burned down a traffic light relay cabinet at a local station of Ukrainian railways.

To commit the crime, the arsonist used a flammable mixture that he made following russia’s instructions and filmed the resulting fire on his phone camera to report to his handler.

Later, the individual was tasked with destroying a base station of one of the mobile operators in the region.

The SSU apprehended him ‘in the act’ after a failed arson attempt.

A smartphone with the ‘video reports’ and contacts with the handler was seized from the suspect during the search.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 28.2 and 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed by a group, under martial law).

The suspect faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kirovohrad region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
