SSU exposes couple of FSB agents preparing missile attack on TPP to cut off power to Lviv
The SSU’s cyber units have neutralized a group of FSB agents who were preparing a missile strike on energy infrastructure in Lviv region.
The enemy intended to target power plants providing electricity to most of the oblast.
To do that, the russian service engaged a local couple.
The main person involved was the husband, who has been serving a sentence in a local penal colony since 2023 for grievous bodily harm.
He came to the aggressor’s attention because of his posts on social media in support of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
The FSB contacted him and recruited remotely.
They switched to an anonymous chat room, where the prisoner received assignments and step-by-step instructions on how to carry them out.
The inmate involved his wife ‘on the outside’. She had to find the ‘necessary’ energy facilities and take photos of them, georeferenced to the area.
The handlers promised to finance the agents’ expenses related to reconnaissance and sabotage and to transfer a ‘reward’.
The occupiers planned to use the data to launch missile strikes in order to cut off power to Lviv oblast.
However, the SSU identified the traitors timely and foiled the enemy plans.
During a search of the agent’s cell, the SSU seized a mobile phone he used to communicate with the FSB.
SSU investigators have served the convict a notice of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 436-2.2, 436-2.3 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
He faces life imprisonment.
His wife will be notified of suspicion of high treason shortly. The investigation is ongoing.
The special operation was carried out by the SSU Lviv Office under the procedural supervision of the Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.
