SBU exposes corrupt officials of State Border Guard Service (video)

The SBU exposed the head of a unit of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on bribe-taking. For money, the official did not impede with unlawful import of cars with foreign registration to Ukraine. The suspects abused the right for temporary importation of personal vehicles with foreign registration for up to 1 year through the Lutsk border detachment checkpoint.

To implement the scheme, the official involved citizens of Ukraine who were searching for "clients" and acting as intermediaries.

The suspects received from USD 600 to 1000 of illegal benefit per one vehicle, causing losses to state budget.

The SBU officers detained one of the suspects after receiving another part of the illegal benefit in the amount of USD 3,000. The total amount of the documented illegal benefit was USD 4,200.

The law enforcement is currently conducting searches of the suspects’ offices and residences. The information on the involvement of other officials in the illegal scheme is being checked.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Main Directorate for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations, under the supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
