The SBU exposed Zaporizzhia City Council officials on budget funds embezzlement. These funds were allocated for the improvement of the city streets. Allegedly, the amount of state losses is UAH 1.6 m. (USD 60,000).

The pre-trial investigation established that in 2019-2020, the officials signed several agreements with representatives of affiliated companies from Zaporizzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions. According to the agreements, the contractors were to carry out works on the improvement of city streets, squares and park areas worth in total of over UAH 6 m. (USD 215,000).

The operatives established that the offenders significantly overestimated the cost of the purchased materials and misappropriated almost 30% of the budget funds.

During the searches of the offenders’ offices and residences, the law enforcement officers found computer equipment, accounting documents and other evidence of illegal activity.

The investigation is ongoing upon the fact of misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation.

The operation was conducted jointly with the investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Zaporizzhia region under supervision of Zaporizzhia Region Prosecutor’s Office.
