SBU exposes damage to state budget by State Customs Service officials
The SBU jointly with the State Bureau of Investigation under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office exposed damage to the state budget by the State Customs Service (SCS) officials.
Law enforcement officers established that the officials of the Central SCS Office and its regional offices organized corruption. The officials took bribes for the customs clearance of goods. They violated the law in the field of public procurement, which led to grave consequences.
Due to the officials' illegal activities, the state budget suffered especially large losses.
During the searches in the Central Office of the State Customs Service and in 15 regional offices, the SBU seized financial and economic documents, which may confirm illegal activities by the officials.
In particular, these documents may confirm violation of budget legislation during transferring customs payments, unreliability of expert's conclusions on classification of goods, documents on the performed construction, reconstruction and capital repairs in the State Customs Service and its regional offices.
The investigation is ongoing within the criminal proceedings.
