SSU exposes FSB resident agent preparing terrorist attacks in Kyiv metro and large shopping centres

The Security Service of Ukraine has prevented new attempts by russia’s FSB to carry out a series of terrorist attacks in Kyiv. According to the investigation, the enemy planned contract killings of well-known Ukrainians, explosions in shopping and entertainment centres and at a metro station in the Ukrainian capital.

Due to the Service’s proactive actions, russia’s plans were thwarted and the organiser of contract killings was identified. He turned out to be a resident of the temporarily occupied Crimea who began working for the russian special services after the peninsula was seized.

The individual was looking for ‘like-minded people’ to recruit them to the network of russia’s federal security service.

Among them were his local acquaintances who had Ukrainian citizenship and, due to their age, were not subject to mobilisation.

The SSU documented an attempt to send a Crimean native recruited by the enemy to Kyiv: he crossed Ukraine’s border through third countries.

Upon arrival in the capital, the head agent in Crimea sent him the coordinates of a cache. From there, he was to pick up a Makarov pistol with a loaded magazine.

It has been confirmed that the FSB ordered the asset to use this weapon to assassinate a media personality in Kyiv.

He also received orders from the occupiers to prepare terrorist attacks in several shopping centres and metro stations in Kyiv. To this end, the agent received instructions on how to make improvised explosive devices, which he was supposed to conceal in backpacks.

Each bomb was to be equipped with a mobile phone for remote detonation during rush hour, when the target sites would be most crowded.

In this way, russia planned to spread panic among the population to destabilise the socio-political situation in Kyiv.

The Security Service uncovered the traitor at an early stage and documented all his contacts with the FSB, which took place through the resident in Crimea.

SSU investigators have notified the recruiter in Crimea of suspicion under the three Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 258.2 (terrorist act);
  • 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).

Since the enemy accomplice is in the temporarily occupied territory, efforts to bring him to justice are underway.

The decision to qualify the crimes of the agent-perpetrator is pending.

The investigation into all members of the FSB agent network is ongoing.

The operation was carried out jointly with the investigators of the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
