SSU detains another GRU agent who worked on railway and spied on Ukrainian Armed Forces trains

The Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) in Kharkiv region. He turned out to be a 51-year-old assistant engineer at a local locomotive depot who was coordinating russian air strikes.

According to the SSU Counterintelligence, his main task was to transmit coordinates of railway platforms where Defense Forces’ military equipment was unloaded.

To coordinate the aggressor’s air strikes, the traitor recorded the time and place of arrival of AFU trains at Ukrzaliznytsia facilities.

He also spied on the flight paths of Ukrainian Armed Forces combat helicopters, trying to ‘calculate’ the likely locations of their airbases.

The SSU identified the perpetrator at an early stage, documented his crimes, and detained him at his home when he was preparing to ‘report’ the collected data to the occupiers.

A ‘spare’ phone was seized from the enemy asset – he used it for communicating with his handler.

According to the investigation, the man came to the GRU’s attention after writing anti-Ukrainian comments on Odnoklassniki.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU – high treason, committed under martial law.

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
