SSU detains another enemy accomplice who passed locations of AFU strongholds in Donetsk region to occupiers
The SSU has apprehended another informant of russian military intelligence in Donetsk region. He was spying on Ukrainian troops holding defence in Lyman sector.
The perpetrator is a 44-year-old local resident who was remotely recruited by the russian service through a woman, his acquaintance, who lives in russia.
She acted as a ‘liaison’ and transmitted information from the agent to the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (‘the GRU’).
Through their asset, the occupiers tried to identify the geolocations of AFU platoon strongholds near Lyman.
The spy walked around the area near the frontline and covertly recorded locations of Ukrainian troops.
He passed the collected data to his liaison in text messages.
The enemy planned to use the intelligence to prepare new offensive operations to break through Ukrainian defences.
The SSU identified the traitor at an early stage, documented his crime and detained him in his home.
During the searches, the SSU seized a mobile phone with evidence of sabotage against Ukraine.
SSU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer, movement or location of the AFU, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces up to 8 years in prison.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
