SSU exposes humanitarian aid fraud in Lviv region: 3,000 bulletproof vests seized and will be handed over to Ukrainian military (video)
The organizer of the scheme has already been notified of suspicion.
According to the investigation, the fraudster is a 42-year-old head of one of advertising holdings of Ukraine. Together with his accomplices, he organized import of military products to Ukraine disguised as humanitarian aid.
To obtain permits for the unimpeded transportation of protective clothing across the border, the dealers misled the officials of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They received letters of guarantee from the military unit and imported the body armour.
After that, instead of free transfer to the military, they sold goods for profit.
During the searches, the law enforcement found almost 3,000 bulletproof vests worth about UAH 25 mln (USD 700,000), which were brought to Ukraine as humanitarian aid for the Army.
In the nearest future, the seized bulletproof vests will be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Investigation is underway.
