SBU exposed embezzlement of state funds

In Ternopil region, the SBU has exposed misappropriation of budget funds.

Allegedly, in 2017 the utility company initiated a tender for the reconstruction of the regional outpatient drug rehab and construction of the admission department for ATO/JFO participants.

Under the contract, the cost of works was almost UAH 21 m. (USD 766,423). However, the officials of the construction company forged the documents and overestimated the cost of works by 15.5%.

Thus, in 2019 the construction was suspended. According to preliminary estimates, the total amount of damage to the state and local budgets tops UAH 3.3 m. (USD 120,437).

Abuse of the company’s management is confirmed by forensic accounting and construction and technical examinations.

The owner of the construction company received a suspicion notice of misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation; forgery in office.

A type of detention is being chosen.

The operation was carried out jointly with the National Police investigators under the supervision of Ternopil District Prosecutor's Office.
